An Achievement of the School of Electronics was Selected as One of Top 10 Social Influential Events in China's Optics Sector (Light10) in 2022

Recently, the results of the 2022 China Top 10 Social Influential Events in China's Optics Sector (Light10) were released. Professor Xingjun Wang's team from School of Electronics of Peking University was selected for its achievement of "Microcomb-drivensiliconphotonicsystems".

The Top 10 Socially Influential Events in China's Optics Sector 2022 (Light10) is an annual list launched by Light: Science & Applications (https://www.nature.com/lsa/), the leading journal of China's Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan, in collaboration with Science.com (https://), the flagship science communication brand of China Science News. www.sciencenet.cn/). "Light10" has been held for four years since 2019. 2022 has attracted wide attention from the public with over 100,000 participants in less than three days.

Professor Xingjun Wang's team cooperated with Professor John E. Bowers' team at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, have reported the world's first novel silicon-based optoelectronic-on-a-chip integrated system driven by an integrated microcavity optical comb. The research teams have worked collaboratively for 3 years to overcome this worldwide problem. This work, which has attracted the attention of the world's academia and industry, is a perfect combination of integrated optical comb and silicon light. It breaks the last mile of the optical frequency comb from the laboratory to industrialization, so that this technology can really be brought to large-scale applications. At the same time, it also solves the worldwide problem of multiple parallel light sources for silicon light, making silicon light have its own brain. The results have been published in Nature.
