Advanced Photonic Integrated Center Open for Operation

On April 1, the "Advanced Photonic Integrated Center" of the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and Networks of Peking University was officially opened for training and equipment reservation for users inside and outside the university. The center is based on the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and Networks of Peking University. In order to strengthen the research capability in the field of photonic chips, the Laboratory invested more than 40 million RMB to build the platform of "Advanced Photonic Integration Center, APIC" based on the existing research conditions of high-speed optical communication/optoelectronic testing and high-speed communication network testing, with a new clean room area of 200 square meters and the acquisition and deployment of complete sets of large micro processing and testing equipment to ensure the process stability. The new clean room will cover an area of 200 square meters, and a complete set of microfabrication and testing equipment will be purchased and deployed to ensure the continuity and consistency of the process, which can significantly shorten the process iteration cycle and greatly facilitate the research of photonic chips. The platform aims to build an open and one-stop research laboratory integrating micro and nano processing, manufacturing and testing means, which will provide effective support for the research work of users inside and outside the university.

Peking University will accelerate the goal of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, provide a broad platform for collaboration and exchange between researchers at home and abroad, and promote the development of photonics in China. The operation of APIC will effectively supplement the micro and nano processing capacity of the university, alleviate the situation of tight machine hours of process equipment, and improve the research hardware conditions of the university's subject groups by providing mutual backup with the existing platforms on campus. It will prioritize the opening of its equipment to meet the high volume and high precision processing needs of on-campus units, while serving off-campus users and providing social benefits in compliance with relevant policies.
